Product Description
What happens to us when we die?
Is there really an afterlife?
Do we possess a soul?
Does God exist?
For Michael Gabriel, the answers to these questions lie in another dimension, a realm of eternity where there is no concept of time, only pure life force . . . pure existence.
And pure evil.
Five hundred years ago, the Mayan Popul Vuh prophesized the birth of powerful twins—the sons of Michael Gabriel. White-haired, azure-eyed Jacob, blessed with i… More >>

What a huge disappointment after reading Domain. Luckily I only borrowed both books from a friend after he saw them on my Amazon wish list. “Domain” was fascinating from start to finish and now my son is enjoying reading it as well, but this… ugh.
How in the world does an author take a concept which he tried to disprove throughout the entirety of the first book and then turns around and makes it a major plot point in the second?!? For those of you who have read it, I’m talking about the Paranoid Schizophrenia.
The book doesn’t have the wonder, tension and sense of expectant awe of the first book. The plot seems forced, like something a poor religious author would write when trying to fictionalize the Book of Revelations.
And what was up with that ending?!? Enough to say that it completely nullified everything that came before for me. It’s one of those “it never happened” moments in fiction, like “The Fly II” and “Alien 3.”
I’ll still read “Phobos” when it comes out, of course. I’m just hoping my friend buys it and lends it to me…

Wow, this book really went far away from what I was expecting. To be honest, I loved The Trench, the rest I liked. THIS, I hated. It was either too slow, too scientific, too religious, too convoluted, too HUH?, or too boring. I consider myself an intelligent person, but I didn’t even bother to follow all of the scientific explanations in the book. It hurts my head. I became a good skimmer with this novel. The ending was just a “What the…?” moment for me.

Prior to reading this book I read the latest installment of the Meg series which I really liked. I’ve been a fan of Alten’s for quite sometime, ever since I read MEG in a day a few years back. That being said, I was a bit let down by this sequel to the very engrossing Domain.
It’s been awhile since I read Domain but he does a good job of refreshing the reader’s memory.
This book takes a very bizare turn from the events of the first book. It gets even deeper into the Mayan prophesies of doom and legends. Actually I think it gets TOO deeply involved in those things.
I was a little confused while reading this book as well. With all the flash backs and branching paths it takes I found it hard to follow. That coupled with the fact that it takes rather large leaps into the future (in more than one way).
The book picks up in the latter half, probably about two thirds of the way through but not enough to warrent a higher rating.
I’ve read some of the other reviews on here and have seen people state that maybe their expectations were a bit too high. I think that was part of my problem as well. After reading and enjoying all of his other works highly, I was really looking forward to this book and it didn’t live up to my expectations.
I’m a little confused over the ending but it still has my interest up for reading the next part.

To date, I have read every book that Mr. Alten has written. They have been “GREAT” each and every one of them, until now. I purchased Resurrection and I’m about half way through the book and I am “BORED STIFF!” Mr. Altens other works were fased paced and loaded with Action/Adventure that took you into the book and had your blood pumping. Resurrection, on the other hand, can put one to sleep real quick. It would be nice if books like this came with a “Money Back Guarantee.” I purchased Primal Waters last week and I’m waiting for the Postman to deliver it as I speak, I just hope it’s nothing like “Resurrection!” Mr. Alten if you ever read this I hope you go back to your old style of writing!

The prequel DOMAIN was a facinating concept, but the continuation here gets WAY too conveluted when you try using too many concepts. In addition to the Mayan Doomsday prophesy, he also tries to tie in Christianity in this novel, which is where the story fails. I don’t know if Mr. Alten wanted to increase the potential readers or what reason caused him to try and introduce this to the mix, but it not only convelutes the story, it’s horribly innaccurate to the Christian faith and spits on a few Christian concepts altogether. It surprised me a great deal, as Mr Alten is a brilliant writer with a gift of weaving fact and fiction into one…this wasn’t even close.
Talking to the dead? There is NO HELL? Whether you believe Christianity or not, if you’re going to use it in your story, get your research right. Read the book man. The OTHER book.
Any comparison to ‘Left Behind’ is strictly that, and VERY flimsy. It’s NOTHING like it. The only good thing about this book is Salt and Pepper.
If you want to read a great Alten story, try Goliath.
